April is Autism Acceptance Month Apr 8, 2026 In recognition of Autism Acceptance Month, the Village of Key Biscayne, in partnership with Commissioner Raquel Regalado, proudly raised the Autism Acceptance flag beneath the Village flag as a symbol of support, inclusion, and community awareness. This meaningful gesture reflects the Village’s ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for all residents and families. As part of this month’s initiatives, the Village will host a Family Fun Day on Sunday, April 19, in collaboration with It Takes a Village, bringing the community together in celebration and support of individuals of all abilities, including those who are neurodivergent. The Village’s Parks & Recreation team also recently participated in specialized training with the University of Miami–Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, gaining insight into Autism Spectrum Disorder characteristics, sensory needs, communication strategies, and ways to create more inclusive and supportive environments. Additionally, the Village’s Disability Advisory Board continues to host regular monthly meetings to gather community feedback, elevate resident voices, and help guide initiatives that support accessibility and inclusion. The next meeting will take place on April 13 at Village Hall. These efforts strengthen the Village’s ability to support all residents and foster a more inclusive, understanding community for individuals and families of all abilities.
